How to Make EASY Homemade Pasta!

Italian Recipes

Guys. Making delicious homemade pasta is way easier than I thought it was going to be. Now, I am sure there are other more intricate ways of making your own pasta, but this one turned out great and I can’t wait to make it again!

Francesco and I were in the kitchen thinking about what we were going to eat for dinner last night and we decided we would give the homemade pasta a go. Turns out, you only need two ingredients– who would have thought? You also don’t really need a pasta machine/attachment, but it would save you a little bit of time if you have one. We didn’t have one so we went with a pizza cutter lol.

We loved this so much that we decided to make it a weekly activity we can do together!

So let’s get started, shall we?

What you’ll need:

  • 400g all purpose flour
  • 4 eggs
  • Plastic wrap
  • Pizza cutter
  • Rolling pin (we used a wine bottle) πŸ™‚
  • Large mixing bowl
  • Large pot of water

Step-by-Step Instructions:

  1. Measure out your pasta and put it in a big mixing bowl. Use your hands to separate the flour in the center of the bowl to create a pit, as pictured below:

2. Crack all four eggs into the center of the pit you’ve made like so:

3. Mix the eggs and flour together with a fork until it starts to form a dough.

4. Get your hands in there and mix it all together! I suggest coating your hands in flour to avoid the dough getting stuck to your fingers — lol I learned that the hard way.

5. Mix that baby up until it looks like this!

6. Wrap your dough up in plastic wrap and let it sit for 30 mins. Use this time to make your sauce πŸ˜‰

(Francesco’s pics were better than mine. He even got the Italian flag in the background):

7. Once your 30 minutes are up, lay out plenty of flour on a clean surface and unwrap your pasta dough — here comes the fun part.

(As the 30 mins went by, the sun went down—sorry for the change in lighting in the photos!)

8. So we didn’t have a rolling pin, but a wine bottle works just as well πŸ™‚ Roll it out as thin or as thick as you want your pasta to be. Keep adding flour under and on top of the dough as you’re rolling to prevent it from being sticky.

9. Once you have it the thickness you want, fill a pot with about 4-6 qts of water (eyeball it like you would with any other pasta, it’ll be fine) and add about a teaspoon of salt, and put it on the stove on medium-high heat. Don’t be shy with that salt.

As you are waiting for the water to boil, go ahead and start cutting your noodles! We happened to have this mini pizza-cutter-type-thing, but a normal pizza cutter would work fine.

10. Separate your noodles carefully and add them to boiling water.

11. Since the pasta is fresh, it will cook considerably faster than dried pasta. Check your pasta after about 3 or 4 minutes, but it really depends on how thick you have rolled and cut it. Ours was done rather quickly!

12. Strain and serve with whatever sauce you want!! SO good and SO easy I promise you won’t be disappointed πŸ™‚

If you try this out, post a picture of it to your stories and tag me (@chlo__e___) so I can see how it turned out!! We actually ended up making homemade pasta twice last week because it was so fun and easy πŸ™‚

I hope you are enjoying these so far and I can’t wait to share the next one. Coming up next: Authentic Italian Pasta Pesto!!

Ciao!
